At an event in San Francisco, Apple has officially announced the new iPad, and our cohorts at Engadget are on the scene. The most notable new feature of the tablet is undeniably its screen, which is capable of full HD 1080p resolution. Well, technically the tablet has a resolution of 2048 x 1536, which is actually higher than the 1920 x 1080 required for 1080p. The new iPad also comes packing a quad-core A5X processor, which Apple claims is "twice as fast" and offers "four times the performance" of a Tegra 3 processor.
Naturally, full HD resolution and new processor will mean quite a bit for game development on the platform. More as we get it.
Update: The WiFi version comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB flavors for $499, $599 and $699, respectively. 4G connectivity will bump those prices up to $629, $729 and $829. The new iPad will go on sale starting March 16. Pre-orders are open today.
